Egyptian Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) is an ancient aquatic plant with a fascinating history, often depicted as a symbol of rebirth and the sun. Most of what is sold as blue lotus today is instead its much more common cousin; blue water lily (Nymphaea nouchali). The genuine blue lotus is very rare to find today and is mainly cultivated by specialists. It has traditionally been used in ritual and cultural contexts in ancient Egypt.
